The location is between the Church of Saint Mark and Saint Catherine in Zagreb, Croatia. The collections stored in this broken-hearted museum are items from ex-lovers, complete with brief descriptions.
The construction of the Museum of Broken Relationship was initiated by Olinka Vistica and Drazen Grubisic who had been in a love relationship for four years before breaking up. The museum was opened for the first time in 2010 and is the only private museum in Zagreb. The first item on display was a rabbit toy which was equipped with holiday photos in Iran.

Before settling permanently in Zagreb, the Museum of Broken Relationship initially debuted as a traveling museum that has traveled all over the world. The museum has recorded world tours from Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Macedonia, the Philippines, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
In 2011, the museum was awarded the Kenneth Hudson award from the European Museum Forum (EMF) as the most innovative museum in Europe. According to the EMF, the Museum of Broken Relationship has encouraged discussion and reflection not only on the fragility of human relations but also the political, social and cultural conditions around the area described.
In 2017, the Museum of Broken Relationship succeeded in attracting more than 100,000 visitors and making it the 11th most popular museum in Croatia. Along with its popularity since 2016, the museum opened a branch in Los Angels, United States. Visitors can come every day because it is open seven days a week.
