The study of the impact of the Shared Taxi Project, concludes that sharing this means of transport is the most intelligent in many ways, not only economic. The data obtained belongs to a real case of the first company that adopts a corporate policy on this aspect of urban mobility.
Thanks to the project, the large company analyzed obtained a reduction in the number of trips of 26%. In absolute numbers, it avoided performing 4,626 “repeated” races, with a decrease in energy consumption corresponding to 69,390 km less, and an estimated emission of 8.5 tons of CO 2. With the Zurich airport to Saint Moritz transfer experiment, the result happens to be the best.
Throughout 2017, the distribution between individual taxis and shared taxis maintained a proportion close to 50/50. Specifically, 47% of employees who used the taxi traveled by shared car. The trips represented 26% of the expense and 26% of the total of the 8,372 journeys made in 2017.
The cost per km of an individual passenger is 3.75 times higher than that of 4 passengers. The functionality allows connecting employees in an automated way in a time slot of 10 minutes maximum and less than 1 km away.
- Efficiency is also possible thanks to the management since larger taxis can be found in the fleet each time. For example, in Zurich there are taxis of 6, 7 and 9 places since the middle of last year.
- The table below shows the impact of the “Shared taxi project” comparing the “No management” scenario with the “shared” data of 15,922 employees transported in 2017 in the 11,296 journeys made.
- The data show direct savings in transfer costs of 37.8%. Additionally, a visibility of the expense was achieved, with management of the category, and greater simplicity and automation of the administrative processes.
- In its mobile apps, thousands of users of the organization received non-intrusively more than 90 million messages to share a taxi by the passengers transported. Only those with the need for mobility overlapped with that of a partner.
Even if they do not come from the same plane or train and do not know each other, they share a taxi at an airport or station to the office using the geolocation of the app. The payment of the race can be made to the account of the company, without the need to advance money, and without tickets or expense sheets.
The Gray Fleet
In the near future, transfers can be made in shared taxi, as in shared car company or an employee accompanied by others on the way to work. Cities, large corporate centers and business parks can find an ally in these solutions.
Every day, hundreds of employees go to the same workplace at the same time . Many of them use their personal vehicle, which means an annual fuel cost of at least € 450 per year and about 500 kg CO 2 for an average route of 10 km.The platforms carpooling start being considered by many companies as an act of corporate social responsibility, reduce traffic volumes in business areas and therefore emissions.
